What Is Pins & Poses?
Pins & Poses begins with a Restorative yoga class led by MonmouthFLow instructor, Ruby Nash, designed to slow the body down, ease tension, and prepare the nervous system for deep rest. Once you settle into savasana, licensed Acupuncturist Sam Bahr of Acupuncture Health Services will gently administer acupuncture to support relaxation and encourage an even deeper state of restoration. The result is a layered, full-body reset: you move and release first, then you receive support to truly let go.
How Acupuncture Works
Acupuncture uses ultra-fine needles to stimulate specific points on the body, which encourages the body's natural healing processes. At the treatment site, this stimulation increases local blood flow and supports tissue repair, while also helping regulate how pain signals are processed — calming an overactive nervous system in the process. Acupuncture also promotes the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain-relieving and mood-boosting chemicals, which is part of why so many people feel a deep sense of relaxation during and after treatment. At its core, acupuncture works by supporting the body's own ability to restore balance and heal.
Why Combine Yoga and Acupuncture?
When practiced together, yoga and acupuncture amplify each other's benefits:
- Reduces stress and promotes relaxation — Acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, while yoga's mindful breathing and movement build an even deeper sense of calm.
- Relieves pain and muscle tension — Both practices can ease chronic pain, tight muscles, headaches, and neck or back discomfort by improving circulation and reducing tension.
- Improves flexibility and mobility — Yoga gently stretches muscles and connective tissue, while acupuncture can help reduce the pain that limits movement.
- Supports recovery from exercise or injury — Together, they may reduce soreness, improve blood flow, and support the body's natural healing process.
- Enhances sleep quality — Many people report deeper, more restful sleep after acupuncture paired with regular yoga practice.
- Promotes emotional well-being — The combination can ease anxiety, lift mood, and create space for a mental reset.
- Encourages body awareness — Yoga builds awareness of posture and movement, while acupuncture helps you tune into physical sensations and areas of imbalance.
- Supports overall wellness — Together, the two practices complement a healthy lifestyle built on balance, resilience, and self-care.
How This Is Different from a Standard Acupuncture Session
In a typical acupuncture treatment, points are needled across the entire body. During Pins & Poses, the format is different: Sam will primarily use auricular needling, meaning the needles are placed in points on the ear. Auricular needling is a wonderful introduction to acupuncture for first-timers and is commonly used in wellness events and community settings, making this the perfect low-commitment way to experience what acupuncture feels like.
