Hormone Vinyasa Flow: A Heated Practice for Women Navigating Perimenopause and Menopause
A new specialty class at Monmouth Flow Yoga + Wellness in Shrewsbury, NJ — designed to support strength, balance, and nervous system regulation through every season of hormonal change.

There's a moment in midlife when the practice you once loved starts to feel different in your body. The flows that used to leave you energized now leave you depleted. The heat that once felt cleansing now feels like too much. The pace that once matched your energy now works against it.
If you've been there, you're not alone. And you're not done with yoga — you may just be ready for a different kind of strong.
That's exactly why we created Hormone Vinyasa Flow, a new specialty class at Monmouth Flow Yoga + Wellness in Shrewsbury, NJ, thoughtfully designed for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and the full spectrum of hormonal transition.

Why Heat and Hormones Deserve a Different Conversation
Most hot yoga classes were not built with hormonal change in mind. They were designed around a single pace, a single intensity, and a single definition of progress — push harder, sweat more, do more.
But women in perimenopause and menopause know the truth: pushing harder is not always the answer. Sometimes it's the problem.
Hormonal transitions affect everything from temperature regulation and sleep to joint stability, coordination, mood, and nervous system resilience. A class that ignores those shifts can leave you feeling more depleted than supported. A class that honors them can change everything.
Hot Hormone Vinyasa Flow is built around a simple idea: strength that supports you, not strength that empties you.
What This Class Is — And What It Isn't
This is not a slowed-down, watered-down version of hot yoga. It's a fully intentional practice designed from the ground up for women whose bodies are evolving.
What to expect:
A heated practice — but slightly cooler than a standard hot class, so your body can build internal warmth without overwhelming your system. A 60-minute flow that moves through mobility, strength, balance, and deep recovery. Steady heat instead of aggressive intensity. Breath-led movement that honors energy fluctuations. Modifications offered freely, without apology. A nervous system that gets to come back down before you leave the room.
What you won't find:
No pressure to push through. No shame around taking a child's pose. No frantic cardio energy disguised as a yoga class. No assumption that one pace fits every body, every day, every cycle of life.
The Class Arc: A 60-Minute Practice Built for Real Bodies
Arrival and Breath (5 minutes)
We begin reclined, with constructive rest and gentle pelvic tilts. Hands to belly and heart. A long audible exhale to signal safety to the nervous system. An optional Lion's Breath to release tension and heat.
The opening cue sets the tone: Notice what kind of energy you arrived with today — and let that inform your practice.
Warm Flow and Mobility (10 minutes)
A slow, intentional build through Cat/Cow, Thread the Needle, Down Dog pedaling, Low Lunge twists, Half Splits, and a modified Sun A. We focus on the thoracic spine, hips, ankles, and breath pacing — opening the body without shocking it.
Standing Heat Builder (20 minutes)
This is where we build steady internal heat through Crescent Lunge, Warrior II, Reverse Warrior, Side Angle, Wide Fold, and Chair Twist. We move into Warrior III, optional Standing Split, Skandasana, Goddess Pose holds, and slow controlled transitions through High Plank.
The cueing language stays grounded throughout: Steady breath, steady focus. Find effort without gripping. Strong legs, soft jaw.
Core and Balance (8 to 10 minutes)
Hormonal changes can quietly affect stability and coordination — and rebuilding both feels empowering. We work through forearm plank, Dead Bug, Bridge lifts, Tree Pose, standing knee taps, and Supported Boat. Blocks and wall support are encouraged, never apologized for.
Cooling Integration (10 minutes)
The nervous system comes back down gradually through Pigeon or Reclined Figure Four, Seated Forward Fold, Supine Twist, Happy Baby, and Legs Up the Wall. A cool lavender essential oil towel at savasana brings the practice to a quiet close.
The closing reflection: There is wisdom in adapting. In listening. In moving with your body instead of against it.
Who This Class Is For
Hot Hormone Vinyasa Flow is designed for women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond who are navigating perimenopause, menopause, or any season of hormonal change. It's also a beautiful fit for anyone — at any age — who wants a more intentional relationship with strength, heat, and recovery.
If you've been feeling like your old practice doesn't quite fit anymore, this class is an invitation to come back to the mat on different terms.
The Music: A Grounded, Feminine Energy Arc
The playlist matters in a class like this. We move through Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, Sade and Kate Bush, woven through warm electronic textures from RY X and London Grammar, with Joni Mitchell and Peter Gabriel carrying us into the cool down. Songs you grew up with, threaded through sounds that hold the practice now.
It's a soundtrack that recognizes you — without ever pulling you out of the room.
